Overview

The 5000 metres high view point at Gochela (the lock Pass) offers a superb view point. A depression, between Mount Pandim, and a spur of the Kabru Peak form the pass. It looks down into the Talung Valley, with the mighty Talung Glacier, winding its way down below. One is surrounded by great white peaks - Khangchendzonga (8596 M), <br> Simvo (6811 M), Sinolchu (6888 M), Pandim (6691 M), Kabru (7338 M) and Rathang (6087 M). The awe inspiring sight, instills a feeling of standing in the very lap of Khangchendzonga, and gazing up at its face. <br> Starting from Yoksom, which is the cradle of Buddhism, in Sikkim, at an altitude of 1780 mtrs; one has to climb steeply to Zongri at 4320 mtr , over a distance of 25 Kilometers. that takes 3 days, with overnight halt; to allow for acclimatization. <br> The trek from Zongri to the base of Gochela, is an enchanting experience, walking through the Himalayan uplands of the Praig Chuu Valley, with the great white peaks dominating the skyline on either side. It takes 2 days to reach Gochela, and another 02 days to return to Yoksom. <br> You can stay in trekker's huts or in tents, on the trek. On termination, you get a chance of visiting Yoksom, and Pamayangtse and exploring the famous Buddhist Monastery. The last day is spent in Darjeeling. During this leg of the adventure we stay at the best available hotels. <br> Alternates: 08 days adventure with 06 days trekking upto Zongri, 4320 mtr.

  • Day 01 Kolkata airport pickup / Afternoon free / Evening train boarding for Siliguri / 12 hrs by train.
  • Day 02 Siliguri to Gangtok (4 hrs) transfer to hotel.
  • Day 03 Gangtok local sight seeing, including Rumtek Monastery, Tsomgo Lake, Tibetology and Enchay Monastery.
  • Day 04 Gangtok to Yuksom, via Bon Monastery/Halt hotel (6 hrs drive, alt 1780 m)
  • Day 05 Yuksom to Tshoka Camp (16 km, alt 3035 m)
  • Day 06 Tshoka to Pedang (8 km, alt 3730 m) & back to Tshoka
  • Day 07 Trek to Zongri (8 km, alt 43200m)
  • Day 08 Zongri to Samiti Lak (8 km, 4555 m)
  • Day 09 Samiti Lake to Gochela (5 km, 5005 m)
  • Day 10 Trek down Gochela to Zongri
  • Day 11 Zongri to Yuksom
  • Day 12 Yuksom to Gangtok (5 hours drive)

Important Information

  • Permits Required: Many areas in Sikkim, especially North Sikkim and border regions, require permits. Ensure you have the necessary documents in advance.
  • Altitude and Weather: Sikkim has varying altitudes, so pack appropriately for both lowland and high-altitude climates. Prepare for temperature fluctuations.
  • Respect Local Customs: Sikkim is culturally diverse and deeply spiritual. Show respect at monasteries, prayer flags, and other sacred sites.
  • Eco-Friendly Travel: Sikkim promotes sustainable tourism. Avoid littering, reduce plastic use, and support eco-friendly practices.
  • Health Preparedness: Carry basic medicines and be aware of altitude sickness symptoms in high areas like Yumthang and Gurudongmar Lake.
